Here are a few tips to keep in mind to get a few more uses out of your clothes.

The Sweet Smell of Sweat

The number one culprit for stinky clothing is sweat. Your clothing is in direct contact with your body and if you are running around all day or even just at work, your body is constantly producing layers of sweat and oil which in turn get absorbed into your clothing. Sweat causes odor when it dries because the bacteria in the sweat begins to decompose which in turn causes the smell. By making sure to limit the amount you sweat into your clothing, you will ensure that you can use the clothes more than once.

Wear an undershirt

Wearing an undershirt is a quick and easy way to make sure that your shirts will stay smelling fresher for longer. Typically when you wear a shirt it is in direct contact with you skin, meaning that when you sweat it is absorbed into the shirt causing the odor. By wearing an undershirt you can stop the sweat from forming on your actual clothes and instead it will stay on the undershirt, keeping your main clothing smelling cleaner for longer. Undershirts act as another layer of insulation as well so if your body is smelly instead of the odor clinging on to your clothing it will stay on your undershirt.

Keep your Closet Open and Moisture Free

Having a closet that is full to the brim with clothing is a sure way to have smelly clothing. Clothing that is close together with no air circulation gives the odor and bacteria a perfect place to keep growing. Having an open closet makes sure that the air is circulating. Another great way to maintain freshness is a method similar to putting baking soda in your refrigerator to stop the odors. Arm & Hammer has a product specifically for your closet which sucks up any moisture to ensure a clean smelling closet and clothes!

Rotate your Clothing

We all have that favorite shirt or pants that we love to wear no matter what the occasion. Wearing the same clothes day in and day out, is a sure way to get it smelling bad. You need to rotate the clothes that you wear. Usually wearing a shirt once and then not wearing it again for a couple of days will make it last longer and keep it smelling fresh as well. You should have at least one different shirt for every day of the week to make sure you can rotate them throughout the week easily. Also by having specific shirts for specific events also helps keep them in better condition. For example having shirts for work, which are different than the shirts you may use to go out or exercise will keep your clothes looking newer and smelling fresher for longer!
